As Chris can attest to, we look as stupid as those two robots on our artwork.

Tom Anderson (0s)

Bye bye.

Jeff Battersby (4s)

We really do.

Tom Anderson (10s)

Hello everyone and welcome to another episode of Basic AF. I am Tom Anderson joined as always by Jeff Battersby. Hello, Jeff!

Jeff Battersby (18s)

Good morning, Tom, and you were looking a little lost there for a second, pal.

Jeff Battersby (21s)

You looked like you didn't know what you were supposed to be doing next.

Tom Anderson (25s)

So, a little insider note here is when we have guests, the recording is a little bit different and so I usually kick the intro music when it's just the two of us because that separates out on the recording, but when we have a guest, it all comes through the Riverside and it makes it hard to edit, but nobody cares.

Jeff Battersby (35s)

Yes, right, and I get to dance.

Tom Anderson (42s)

Anyway, good to see you.

Tom Anderson (44s)

Happy holidays.

Tom Anderson (45s)

I know you've got your Christmas lights up year round in your little studio there, but now it's appropriate.

Jeff Battersby (48s)

In here, and I got him on the tree yesterday, so the tree is up, and you know, I've murdered another tree.

Tom Anderson (50s)

Yeah.

Tom Anderson (51s)

Nice.

Jeff Battersby (56s)

I have a friend who, she says it's bougie, but I don't really think it is.

Jeff Battersby (1m 3s)

She rented a sequoia for the holidays, which is kind of cool, and I'm kind of interested in finding something like that for myself so I don't have to murder trees anymore.

Jeff Battersby (1m 14s)

But yeah, cool stuff.

Jeff Battersby (1m 16s)

you

Tom Anderson (1m 17s)

Okay, yeah, that's where I'm heading out afterwards.

Jeff Battersby (1m 18s)

You know, I was looking before the show,

I was like, well, I know he joined,

just to show how quickly time goes by.

Tom Anderson (1m 44s)

it was actually the April 29th episode.

That's what I thought.

Chris Freitag (1m 52s)

Tom Anderson (1m 55s)

There's another one we won't bring up,

Tom Anderson (1m 57s)

but it's, Jeff usually calls me that.

Jeff Battersby (1m 59s)

There's a pair of us here, though.

Jeff Battersby (2m 1s)

There's a pair of those other "A" words standing right here, and it doesn't include Chris.

Tom Anderson (2m 6s)

Yeah, that was episode 34.

Tom Anderson (2m 7s)

We are up to, and I just want to make it a quick note,

Tom Anderson (2m 10s)

episode 50, congratulations to us, Jeff.

Jeff Battersby (2m 12s)

Wow. Yes. Look at us. We're 50 years old. We're 50 episodes old. Wow. Yeah, right. We'll see. We can probably work it out. As soon as we have that political show, Tom, I think it'll end everything for us. Yeah, right. Nobody's going to want to listen to that.

Tom Anderson (2m 15s)

Yeah, we've not grown tired of each.

Tom Anderson (2m 17s)

Yeah, through 50 episodes,

Tom Anderson (2m 18s)

but we've known each other 14 years or so now,

Tom Anderson (2m 20s)

so I don't think it's gonna happen.

Tom Anderson (2m 30s)

And the listeners too.

Tom Anderson (2m 31s)

So it all kind of comes together nicely.

Jeff Battersby (2m 37s)

So Chris, first, one of the things I want to say, straight off the bat, mostly following

Jeff Battersby (2m 43s)

And man, I love your basically everyday photos that you're putting out.

Jeff Battersby (2m 48s)

Really a treat to see and I like the photography you're doing.

Jeff Battersby (2m 52s)

And thank you.

Chris Freitag (2m 54s)

Jeff Battersby (3m 1s)

Yeah, great stuff. And how goes the channel?

Chris Freitag (3m 6s)

I think I'm doing pretty well and, you know, I'm over 1,600 subscribers at this point,

Chris Freitag (3m 14s)

which is, you know, way beyond my wildest dreams, you know.

Chris Freitag (3m 19s)

So I'm – I look at it as every minute anybody watches,

Jeff Battersby (3m 42s)

it feels to me now like you've got your style down.

Jeff Battersby (3m 46s)

You know, it's pretty clear, you know, there are definitely some beats that you have in the midst of what you're doing.

Jeff Battersby (3m 53s)

And it feels like you've gotten comfortable with how the editing is going and all that.

Chris Freitag (3m 58s)

Yeah, all of that is very, it's such a huge learning curve.

Chris Freitag (4m 3s)

You'd think going from photo to video wouldn't be that big,

Chris Freitag (4m 5s)

but I think it's like skiing to snowboarding.

Chris Freitag (4m 8s)

Like there's just this fundamental difference that people don't usually understand.

Chris Freitag (4m 13s)

And I had to go through those learning, those bumps.

Jeff Battersby (4m 17s)

Yeah, I remember the first time I snowboarded and caught a front edge.

Chris Freitag (4m 22s)

December OS Updates

Tom Anderson (4m 46s)

So as we record this, it's Saturday, December 7th, so I think we've got those either Thursday or Friday of this week.

Tom Anderson (4m 51s)

Mac OS 15

Tom Anderson (4m 53s)

Dot to vision OS 2.2 iPad and iOS 18.2 so it looks like we'll be seeing those next week I know Jeff you've been running the betas Chris. Are you on any of the betas?

Chris Freitag (5m 3s)

I am on the public beta. I just got everything updated last night.

Jeff Battersby (5m 7s)

Nice. Yeah, I've found them to be pretty solid.

Tom Anderson (5m 7s)

Nice yeah, how's that been?

Tom Anderson (5m 10s)

Yeah, yeah, I'm running

Tom Anderson (5m 13s)

That's a camera on an iPad and Mac OS. I have not done any betas on the phone or the watch or vision OS

Jeff Battersby (5m 19s)

Did you do him on the Vision Pro yet, or no?

Tom Anderson (5m 21s)

No

Jeff Battersby (5m 23s)

Chicken.

Tom Anderson (5m 23s)

You Sure

Tom Anderson (5m 29s)

Now I am so I'll be honest we had so it you know a couple of weeks ago

Tom Anderson (5m 34s)

Apple put out some more immersive content. They did that concert for one series

Tom Anderson (5m 39s)

And Ray was on there. So I wanted to check that out and I

Tom Anderson (5m 43s)

Almost did the beta then because I wanted to try the new

Tom Anderson (5m 47s)

Virtual desktop stuff for Mac OS because they've got the wide and ultra wide options now

Tom Anderson (5m 53s)

Well, it's only two weeks until the release. So I'm just gonna wait but but I will talk about that. We'll talk about that

Jeff Battersby (5m 58s)

Okay, cool. Yeah, I'm looking forward to that. Awesome.

Tom Anderson (6m)

Next episode maybe a little bit when that comes out

Tom Anderson (6m 3s)

So that'll be out that's got you know, some of the new Apple intelligence features that they continue to roll out

Jeff Battersby (6m 10s)

Yeah, I used that one day. Yeah, I made a couple of pictures and I'm done with it.

Tom Anderson (6m 10s)

Image playground image wand chat GPT integration with Siri one day

Tom Anderson (6m 17s)

Just just one day

Tom Anderson (6m 20s)

Yeah, I did about the same. I've made a whole bunch of

Tom Anderson (6m 23s)

Ones of me and the wife and the kids and and send them off and irritated people with them But I haven't done much with the sense Chris you played over that

Jeff Battersby (6m 29s)

Yeah, including me, by the way.

Chris Freitag (6m 31s)

Nope, I haven't used any of those features yet because I don't have a vision, so I don't

Tom Anderson (6m 38s)

Got it

Jeff Battersby (6m 38s)

Yeah, I sent you a picture Tom with a 3d

Tom Anderson (6m 43s)

You did yep

Jeff Battersby (6m 43s)

Shot that I took of that I took when I was in Pyrmont, New York actually

Tom Anderson (6m 48s)

Mm-hmm

Jeff Battersby (6m 48s)

And he said it was kind of cool. I had no way of seeing it

Tom Anderson (6m 52s)

It it was like I think the spatial photos are I

Tom Anderson (6m 57s)

Don't want to say it's a gimmick really, but it they're okay like they're not

Tom Anderson (7m 1s)

that great, I think what's impressive is

Tom Anderson (7m 5s)

When you can take so an Envision OS if you go into photo

Tom Anderson (7m 8s)

you've got a regular picture you can you know tap on the little spatial icon and it will transform the regular picture into kind of a spatial photo. That's impressive to me because it just and some of them are really old and it still seems to do a pretty good job with it so I think that's that's pretty good. I have not done any playing around with the spatial audio or spatial video or photographs yet myself but yeah I mean you can tell it

Tom Anderson (7m 38s)

it's not just a photo but it's it's kind of yeah. Not that it's a nice picture but yeah and it's like but I I feel like for certain use cases those spatial photos probably turn out better like if you got your I don't know family member kid whatever dead center in the frame and then you're staying still and they're kind of stuff's going on maybe or something but yeah I don't know.

Jeff Battersby (7m 42s)

Okay, maybe it's just my photography.

Jeff Battersby (7m 47s)

It was a great picture, I thought.

Tom Anderson (8m 8s)

Alright.

Chris Freitag (8m 8s)

Whenever I see those, I immediately think of Minority Report.

Jeff Battersby (8m 13s)

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Chris Freitag (8m 13s)

Um, and it's like, it's a depressing vision, you know, what, what he's,

Chris Freitag (8m 19s)

he's doing in Minority Report.

Chris Freitag (8m 21s)

But yeah, that's, uh, that's what I always think of because

Chris Freitag (8m 24s)

that's where I saw it first.

Jeff Battersby (8m 25s)

yeah looking around the room right that's a it's still one of my you know top 50 favorite movies I still like that for variety of reasons but yeah that was that is always cool kind of look around the room see the scissors on the table see the you know the swing going back and way all that stuff I'm kind of kind of cool yeah so I'm to play with it more but I don't have I don't have the ability and nor will I to put on vision Pro and see what it looks like

Chris Freitag (8m 35s)

Right.

Jeff Battersby (8m 55s)

when I play with it I have to send it to you and have you go ahead it was okay

Tom Anderson (8m 59s)

That's kind of what it did, yeah.

Jeff Battersby (9m 3s)

yeah that is exactly what you did right right it's just a reflection on me in general I understand I got you Tom you a relationship is to that point where I understand what I'm good for and what you know what I'm not so yes it is That's right, we've been around for a minute.

Tom Anderson (9m 6s)

But it wasn't a reflection of the photograph.

Tom Anderson (9m 7s)

It was just, it didn't really stand out much.

Tom Anderson (9m 20s)

Like I said, it's been 14 years, Jeff.

Tom Anderson (9m 22s)

That's where we're at, so, yeah.

Jeff Battersby (9m 26s)

Anyway, Chris, we're having you on because we want to talk photography,

Jeff Battersby (9m 33s)

particularly photography on the phone.

Jeff Battersby (9m 35s)

But we have a couple of other things we want to talk about.

Jeff Battersby (9m 40s)

And one of those things is the Pixelmator acquisition by Apple of Pixelmator,

Apple & Pixelmator

Jeff Battersby (9m 48s)

which, by the way, I use on both my phone and my Mac.

Jeff Battersby (9m 52s)

Not very well, but you have thoughts?

Chris Freitag (9m 56s)

Yeah, I mean I'm very, very curious.

Chris Freitag (10m)

It is an application that I absolutely use.

Chris Freitag (10m 2s)

I use Pixelmator Pro.

Chris Freitag (10m 5s)

I use that for my thumbnails, for my YouTube thumbnails.

Chris Freitag (10m 10s)

I actually do a lot of graphic design work in it now,

Chris Freitag (10m 12s)

even though I started in Photoshop and Illustrator,

Chris Freitag (10m 14s)

I just find it very easy to use.

Chris Freitag (10m 18s)

Photomator, I don't use as often.

Chris Freitag (10m 20s)

I mean, it's a good application,

Chris Freitag (10m 24s)

But I'm--

Chris Freitag (10m 26s)

really curious what their plan is with it, you know?

Chris Freitag (10m 29s)

It's one of those things where I don't think a lot of people realize that Photos on the Mac is an incredibly awesome photo editing application, where the one on the iPad and the iOS is really pulled back.

Chris Freitag (10m 45s)

They don't do nearly the same stuff.

Chris Freitag (10m 49s)

So I'm wondering if that's why.

Chris Freitag (10m 50s)

Like if their iOS stuff, they just realized they were never

Jeff Battersby (10m 55s)

Yeah, it's interesting. I have been using Tom. I should ask, do you use either of those apps and the other?

Tom Anderson (11m 1s)

Very little, I have it, but I don't use it a whole lot.

Jeff Battersby (11m 5s)

So I for the longest time and they

Jeff Battersby (11m 9s)

It's still supported. I think I used pics pixelmator photo, which was the precursor to photomator

Jeff Battersby (11m 16s)

And it was part of my workflow for iOS photography

Jeff Battersby (11m 20s)

Especially when I was doing black and white stuff I would use one conversion in black

Jeff Battersby (11m 25s)

and white in the Photos app and then jump over to Pixelmator Photo to do a little deeper work and Photomator hasn't provided me with the same kind of workflow.

Jeff Battersby (11m 42s)

But I do use it for my photo editing, it is my go-to for the vast majority of what I'm doing on my phone.

Jeff Battersby (11m 51s)

Not as much on my Mac.

Jeff Battersby (11m 55s)

In fact, I don't do a ton of editing on my Mac.

Jeff Battersby (11m 57s)

Some on my iPad, but mostly on my phone when I'm doing it.

Jeff Battersby (12m 1s)

That's part of my process.

Jeff Battersby (12m 2s)

So you use it every day.

Chris Freitag (12m 5s)

Um, I do get into Pixelmator Pro almost every day.

Chris Freitag (12m 8s)

Um, I, you know, I do design work in there, just touch up stuff, but where I'm hoping or I think a lot of people are hoping is I did use Aputure.

Chris Freitag (12m 20s)

I was a big Aputure user and I loved it.

Chris Freitag (12m 23s)

And actually when Aputure fell, that's also when my photography went into a dip because I didn't want to go back into Adobe's world.

Chris Freitag (12m 35s)

The iPhone and all these things were starting to, like computational photography, this is going to get more interesting.

Chris Freitag (12m 41s)

Maybe I just don't even need a camera anymore.

Chris Freitag (12m 43s)

And so I got away from that whole raw, uh, workflow for a while and then I came back into Lightroom, but I would love to see, um, maybe it's not Aputure, but maybe it's a part of their Final Cut logic and then whatever photo application for professional work.

Jeff Battersby (13m 5s)

One of the things that I love about Pixelmator is, first of all, the price point.

Jeff Battersby (13m 15s)

It is definitely a macOS/iOS app.

Jeff Battersby (13m 19s)

It has the feel of something designed specifically for Apple products, which I love about it.

Jeff Battersby (13m 28s)

Photoshop was never anything I really did much with, and it still feels clunky to me.

Jeff Battersby (13m 33s)

most of those products at Adobe.

Jeff Battersby (13m 35s)

is a great place to start.

Jeff Battersby (13m 50s)

The

Jeff Battersby (14m 5s)

actual product is a great place to start.

Chris Freitag (14m 23s)

  • Right.

Chris Freitag (14m 26s)

And they get the iOS, iPad, and Mac, right?

Chris Freitag (14m 30s)

They just, they get it like that.

Jeff Battersby (14m 35s)

It's really thoughtful stuff.

Jeff Battersby (14m 36s)

So, you know, interesting.

Jeff Battersby (14m 37s)

We'll see what it, you know, how it plays out and whether that division, you know, the people that create a Pixelmator, whether or not they continue to be the strength behind that after being picked up by Apple.

Jeff Battersby (14m 52s)

I hope so, you know, because they have really, really great design ideas in terms of how that application works and the features that they add to it on the regular.

Jeff Battersby (15m 1s)

So, you know, we'll hopefully see more for that.

Jeff Battersby (15m 5s)

Cool, cool.

Tom Anderson (15m 7s)

Yeah, I'll be curious to see how that plays out because they Apple does these acquisitions

Tom Anderson (15m 14s)

Well, they do a lot of them but a lot of them are small and they kind of just

Tom Anderson (15m 18s)

integrate the technology and as they did a lot around the AI stuff and everything but shortcuts was the result of an

Tom Anderson (15m 25s)

Acquisition right because it was workflow before and so they picked that up

Tom Anderson (15m 29s)

Of course beats they bought that but there's still a beats brand so it'll be interesting to see what if they keep the pixel meter is a

Tom Anderson (15m 37s)

Product or if they you know, I think Chris alluded to there a couple of minutes ago bring in a new kind of pro photo app

Tom Anderson (15m 44s)

and leverage that stuff, but

Tom Anderson (15m 47s)

But they are they are great Apple devs. I think it's it's

Tom Anderson (15m 51s)

Hopefully Apple doesn't blow it

Jeff Battersby (15m 53s)

Yeah, ha ha ha. Hey, Siri. Oh, wait.

Tom Anderson (15m 56s)

Right, you know that - yeah back on iPhone 4 and I came out

Jeff Battersby (16m 1s)

In my. Anyway, good stuff.

Jeff Battersby (16m 6s)

All right. So the big thing that we wanted to get to today is

iPhone 16 Pro Photography

Jeff Battersby (16m 10s)

something that I don't have, which is in Apple 16 or Apple 16 Pro.

Jeff Battersby (16m 16s)

Both you. What did I say?

Tom Anderson (16m 17s)

IPhone.

Tom Anderson (16m 19s)

Apple.

Chris Freitag (16m 20s)

apple. Everybody knows.

Jeff Battersby (16m 20s)

Whatever.

Tom Anderson (16m 21s)

You've had a few drinks,

Tom Anderson (16m 23s)

but you don't have an IPhone 16.

Jeff Battersby (16m 23s)

[COUGH] Right, right, yeah, the vodka tonics have been going early and deep.

Jeff Battersby (16m 31s)

iPhone, Apple, [COUGH] 16, it's me.

Jeff Battersby (16m 36s)

It's my brains on the usual, I don't even need alcohol.

Tom Anderson (16m 38s)

See that's the residual from that snowboarding accident you talked about ten minutes ago. Yeah [laughs]

Jeff Battersby (16m 42s)

Right, right, right, did I mention that I had multiple concussions from it?

Jeff Battersby (16m 47s)

Anyway, I don't have, I have an iPhone 15 Pro Max,

Jeff Battersby (16m 53s)

but you guys have been working with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max?

Jeff Battersby (16m 59s)

Is that what you're, both of you are on the, you have the Pro.

Tom Anderson (17m 2s)

Yeah, I've got Pro Max.

Jeff Battersby (17m 5s)

And Chris, you put out a video, I don't know what the date on this was,

Chris Freitag (17m 8s)

It was a couple of weeks after the release.

Jeff Battersby (17m 11s)

I didn't see the date, how long ago did, okay,

Jeff Battersby (17m 15s)

so you've now had a good bit of time to spend with the iPhone.

Jeff Battersby (17m 21s)

and normally you shoot Fuji.

Jeff Battersby (17m 23s)

That's your, that's your, your go to, but curious if you've had any further thoughts about the camera control button, about the photography that's taking place, you know, what, what's possible, and I want to hear, I want to hear more what your thoughts are.

Chris Freitag (17m 40s)

Sure, yeah, since that video,

Chris Freitag (17m 42s)

my thoughts have mostly stayed the same.

Chris Freitag (17m 45s)

I don't like the camera control button very much for the half press stuff.

Chris Freitag (17m 51s)

As a button on the device, now that it's winter,

Chris Freitag (17m 56s)

I'm walking my dog, I've got my gloves on,

Chris Freitag (17m 58s)

it's great to be able to open the camera and use the camera without doing anything else.

Chris Freitag (18m 6s)

I don't have to worry about touchscreen gloves or anything like that.

Chris Freitag (18m 10s)

I can just use the camera, and that's great.

Chris Freitag (18m 12s)

I do love that.

Chris Freitag (18m 13s)

So as a physical button, it's great.

Chris Freitag (18m 16s)

I'm glad that it's there.

Chris Freitag (18m 18s)

But yeah, all that special camera control stuff where you slide your finger to adjust certain parts,

Chris Freitag (18m 26s)

I just haven't found it to be very useful.

Chris Freitag (18m 29s)

The onscreen controls are actually much more useful from a user standpoint, how I hold my device in my hand.

Chris Freitag (18m 37s)

But it's not all negative.

Chris Freitag (18m 38s)

I'll get to the good stuff.

Chris Freitag (18m 40s)

In a sec.

Jeff Battersby (18m 41s)

Okay. Cool. Tom, how about you?

Tom Anderson (18m 44s)

Yeah, I pretty much feel the same way.

Tom Anderson (18m 46s)

I think it, I love it as a launcher for the camera.

Tom Anderson (18m 51s)

And Chris made a great point there with having gloves on and being able to do that.

Tom Anderson (18m 57s)

I do launch the camera sometimes accidentally by pressing it just when I pick it up.

Tom Anderson (19m 4s)

Now, if it's locked and you press it,

Tom Anderson (19m 5s)

it doesn't do anything, so it doesn't matter.

Tom Anderson (19m 6s)

But for the controls, it's still just.

Tom Anderson (19m 11s)

feels like too fidgety and imprecise and I know their settings and I've played with the settings a little bit there too.

Tom Anderson (19m 18s)

And Chris, you alluded to it in your video.

Tom Anderson (19m 21s)

But the placement on the phone itself still doesn't, even after almost three months now,

Tom Anderson (19m 28s)

it still doesn't fall in.

Tom Anderson (19m 31s)

I haven't gotten used to where it is like in either way you hold it like portrait or landscape.

Tom Anderson (19m 37s)

It's not in a good spot in either position or orientation.

Tom Anderson (19m 41s)

If you're doing a portrait, it's too low.

Tom Anderson (19m 43s)

And if you're doing the kind of a landscape shot, it's still not right.

Tom Anderson (19m 48s)

So I just use the on screen button.

Tom Anderson (19m 51s)

So yeah.

Jeff Battersby (19m 52s)

to take pictures. Now are you guys both using the the Apple's camera app or either using Halide?

Tom Anderson (19m 53s)

Mm hmm.

Chris Freitag (20m)

I bounce back and forth, but the the launcher launches apples, you know, I I

Chris Freitag (20m 6s)

Mostly get the best pictures using apples because it's just all built-in, you know, they control the hardware in the software

Jeff Battersby (20m 14s)

Right they're both both pieces of that

Jeff Battersby (20m 18s)

The so I use on on my 15 pro max I use halide in the in the button on the top

Jeff Battersby (20m 27s)

For

Jeff Battersby (20m 29s)

Photos that I'm being really thoughtful about

Jeff Battersby (20m 31s)

If I'm just needing to take a quick picture

Jeff Battersby (20m 34s)

You know the when you can slide down the control center on the right hand side that camera link is taking me to Apple's camera

Jeff Battersby (20m 41s)

Which is what I was using for a long time

Jeff Battersby (20m 44s)

So I I'm bouncing between the two of those lock screen cameras halide as well for me

Jeff Battersby (20m 51s)

and one of the things that you said in your video is that

Jeff Battersby (20m 55s)

Really the tech behind everything hasn't changed that much between the 15 and the 16 so you're getting

Jeff Battersby (21m 2s)

Kind of the same quality you know the same

Jeff Battersby (21m 5s)

Features from that which makes me happy because I had no intention of hopping on that that 16

Jeff Battersby (21m 12s)

Are there any other things?

Jeff Battersby (21m 14s)

that you've seen since using this that have changed your mind about the value of the tech?

Chris Freitag (21m 25s)

I mean, this is a hard one because I don't actually think it's a technological problem.

Chris Freitag (21m 32s)

I think they gated it, but the color profiles, the photographic styles are like the reason to get it.

Chris Freitag (21m 44s)

Like I would get it for that.

Jeff Battersby (21m 46s)

Okay. Is it?

Chris Freitag (21m 47s)

But the thing is, I really think it could be on the 14 and the 15.

Chris Freitag (21m 50s)

They were powerful enough to run this, so it's a tough one.

Jeff Battersby (21m 55s)

So say more about that. What is it about those styles that makes it stand out to you?

Chris Freitag (22m)

Well, whenever you have any kind of camera.

Chris Freitag (22m 3s)

So if you buy a Fujifilm X100V and you go out to take photos and you have it all in auto,

Chris Freitag (22m 10s)

it is going to assume that you want a bright image.

Chris Freitag (22m 15s)

It is going to just take everything and try to make it all bright.

Chris Freitag (22m 18s)

So it'll make the adjustment to the ISO and the shutter speed and all of that.

Chris Freitag (22m 21s)

Apple does the same thing.

Chris Freitag (22m 24s)

All of them do the same thing.

Chris Freitag (22m 25s)

And the problem with those photos is they end up looking very flat and pretty boring.

Chris Freitag (22m 30s)

And that's almost how you can tell.

Chris Freitag (22m 33s)

And so what they do on the screen is they give you this square that you can adjust and there's different colors that you start with.

Chris Freitag (22m 40s)

So gold or rose gold or these different kind of shades to the image, which are reminiscent of a film.

Chris Freitag (22m 48s)

That's why it's such a big deal to I think Fujifilm shooters.

Chris Freitag (22m 51s)

'Cause there is like this idea behind it that it's similar to a film stock.

Chris Freitag (22m 55s)

So you start there, but then you say,

Chris Freitag (22m 58s)

"No, I don't want it that bright."

Chris Freitag (23m)

Bring those shadows back down.

Chris Freitag (23m 1s)

You can actually add depth through color.

Chris Freitag (23m 4s)

And I just, I find it beautiful.

Chris Freitag (23m 6s)

I think it makes beautiful images.

Chris Freitag (23m 8s)

So it really took it up a next level.

Jeff Battersby (23m 12s)

And you can shoot straight black and white from it now, too, right?

Jeff Battersby (23m 14s)

Yeah, which is, for me, I do a lot of conversion to black and white.

Jeff Battersby (23m 19s)

I almost always prefer black and white photography to color photography.

Jeff Battersby (23m 28s)

And maybe that goes back to, you know, first cameras that I had in my hand back in the day when, you know, for graduation from high school.

Jeff Battersby (23m 35s)

I got a Konica that, you know, I was shooting black and white film.

Jeff Battersby (23m 39s)

First roll of film I ever shot black and white.

Jeff Battersby (23m 42s)

And I have those photos sitting upstairs right on my desk.

Jeff Battersby (23m 44s)

And they're, you know, for a dumbass kid taking pictures, they're pretty good.

Chris Freitag (23m 48s)

You don't, not to jump off the iPhone and we'll come right back to it,

Chris Freitag (23m 52s)

but I have to say the Photos app on the Mac,

Chris Freitag (23m 57s)

macOS Photos has the best black and white editor, I think.

Chris Freitag (24m 2s)

Like I will edit my photos in Lightroom to black and white and I'll bring them into Photos to finish it,

Chris Freitag (24m 8s)

to make it really pop.

Chris Freitag (24m 10s)

Because their black and white slider thing that they have is incredible.

Jeff Battersby (24m 15s)

Yeah, I have to play with that more.

Jeff Battersby (24m 16s)

I don't usually, usually I go to picture maker at that point in time.

Chris Freitag (24m 18s)

I don't think people know about it.

Tom Anderson (24m 18s)

And sleep on it, yeah.

Chris Freitag (24m 20s)

I really don't think people know.

Jeff Battersby (24m 22s)

Very cool.

Jeff Battersby (24m 23s)

All right, so that's interesting.

Jeff Battersby (24m 24s)

So the fact that you can kind of choose that,

Jeff Battersby (24m 26s)

make adjustments to it.

Jeff Battersby (24m 27s)

One of the things that I find with the iPhone,

Jeff Battersby (24m 30s)

with the camera that kind of drives me nuts is,

Jeff Battersby (24m 34s)

and I don't know why it does this,

Jeff Battersby (24m 37s)

but I will often make adjustments to the brightness if I'm using the iPhone camera,

Jeff Battersby (24m 42s)

you can slide down on the screen,

Jeff Battersby (24m 45s)

you can slide up or down on the screen to get more light or less light.

Jeff Battersby (24m 48s)

And right at about the time that I've set the color,

Jeff Battersby (24m 52s)

you know, I've set the brightness that I want and start to reframe the picture,

Jeff Battersby (24m 55s)

it jumps back to the previous one,

Jeff Battersby (24m 56s)

which drives me flipping crazy.

Jeff Battersby (24m 59s)

Is that still an issue in the 16 world?

Chris Freitag (25m 3s)

Yes. It is.

Tom Anderson (25m 4s)

Yep, yeah, yeah, I think that's probably software.

Jeff Battersby (25m 4s)

Yeah, great, that's good news.

Jeff Battersby (25m 9s)

All right.

Tom Anderson (25m 12s)

Be my guess a bit.

Tom Anderson (25m 14s)

Back to the photographic styles for just a second.

Tom Anderson (25m 18s)

I agree with Chris.

Tom Anderson (25m 19s)

I didn't really expect much from those really.

Tom Anderson (25m 21s)

I thought they're glorified filters, but they're really not.

Tom Anderson (25m 24s)

But also that's in the image processing pipeline.

Tom Anderson (25m 29s)

So it's captured.

Tom Anderson (25m 30s)

So if you go over to your iPad later to edit,

Tom Anderson (25m 34s)

and it's on your iPad too,

Tom Anderson (25m 35s)

so you're not stuck on the phone necessarily if you don't want to edit there.

Tom Anderson (25m 38s)

I don't know if it shows up on macOS Photos app or not.

Tom Anderson (25m 40s)

I haven't looked there, it doesn't.

Tom Anderson (25m 42s)

Okay, so just on iPad and iPhone.

Tom Anderson (25m 43s)

But if you do want a bigger screen to do those adjustments, it does carry over to the iPhone.

Chris Freitag (25m 50s)

Yeah, that's a good point. It's not baked in, which is a feature like the other cameras don't have.

Chris Freitag (25m 57s)

You know, if I shoot a certain way on Fujifilm in a JPEG, that is baked into the JPEG. That is over.

Chris Freitag (26m 4s)

But on the iPhone, you can adjust after that.

Jeff Battersby (26m 5s)

Okay, yeah really, oh you can, oh that's interesting, okay, that's, I like that.

Tom Anderson (26m 5s)

Right.

Tom Anderson (26m 8s)

Yeah.

Tom Anderson (26m 8s)

And you don't really need to even have them on.

Tom Anderson (26m 10s)

Like you can just take a photo and then go back later and apply the styles.

Tom Anderson (26m 15s)

Yeah.

Tom Anderson (26m 16s)

Yeah.

Tom Anderson (26m 18s)

Which is nice because that kind of opens up a lot of,

Tom Anderson (26m 20s)

oh crap, I should have set it to something else,

Tom Anderson (26m 23s)

but I didn't even think about it.

Tom Anderson (26m 24s)

And then later on, you can be like,

Tom Anderson (26m 25s)

oh, I'll just do it in post.

Jeff Battersby (26m 29s)

So, Chris, as far as photography goes, obviously, you're shooting Fujifilm all the time, that's your primary.

Jeff Battersby (26m 36s)

How much iPhone photography do you do and, you know, is it that's the phone that's in your pocket, you know, that's the camera that's in your pocket at the time, or is it more

Chris Freitag (26m 48s)

Yeah, um I don't intentionally go out and shoot with iPhone

Chris Freitag (26m 54s)

It's just the preferred style, right? I just like the viewfinder I like to put my eye up to the camera and shoot through the viewfinder

Chris Freitag (27m 4s)

And you know the the screen doesn't really give me that experience

Chris Freitag (27m 8s)

But it is the camera that I have with me You know as much as I want to be an EDC person and have an everyday pack that just is everything

Chris Freitag (27m 18s)

Notebook, it's got everything. It just doesn't happen right I walk out with things in my pockets

Chris Freitag (27m 23s)

And so my phone acts, you know when I see something beautiful. I'm glad that I have it

Jeff Battersby (27m 30s)

Right. Yeah. And that's what it is for me, and I shot Nikon for a long time. I haven't shot

Jeff Battersby (27m 39s)

full-size camera in years. I'm rethinking it, thanks to you, pal,

Jeff Battersby (27m 46s)

and looking at, you know, what it is that I might get. I'm not ready to bankroll anything, whether it was, you know, a new Nikon Z series or chasing you around, switching over to Fuji. I don't know.

Jeff Battersby (28m)

Definitely getting my attention, I will say. I will say that. But I do not intentionally go out to take photographs with my phone either, but I'm always happy that I have it in my pocket,

Jeff Battersby (28m 17s)

because I do see things, or I'll see light. You know, I was doing a work thing the other day,

Jeff Battersby (28m 23s)

and it's going to sound dumb. We were dumping, doing some excavation work from time to time,

Jeff Battersby (28m 29s)

and we were dumping a.

Jeff Battersby (28m 30s)

A basically a pile of dirt and water into this place that we dump it in the sunset was so perfect that it was hitting the pond.

Jeff Battersby (28m 41s)

You know that's from the water when it was like click you know you look at it and you think you know he is a work site should be garbage looking and looked amazing.

Jeff Battersby (28m 52s)

So I'm always happy to have that in my pocket because it is always in my pocket I just said pocket like I was from Boston or something.

Chris Freitag (28m 59s)

Ha, ha, pluck it.

Tom Anderson (28m 59s)

You did? [laughs]

Jeff Battersby (28m 59s)

Um, yeah.

Jeff Battersby (29m)

I don't leave it in the car.

Chris Freitag (29m 3s)

You never leave it in the car?

Jeff Battersby (29m 8s)

Never, never.

Jeff Battersby (29m 10s)

Um, you know, that's, that's the key feature for, for these, these phones for me and, you know, on a hike, I always think that I'd like to just hike with my watch on, but you know, I'm happy not to have full gear when I'm hiking sometimes, but, uh, super happy to have a phone.

Chris Freitag (29m 36s)

You know, it's a funny thing this 16, I've never quite felt so much like they were just trying to fill the gap because I do believe the rumors.

Chris Freitag (29m 48s)

I think there is a redesign coming and this just kind of feels like an interim phone.

Jeff Battersby (29m 55s)

Yeah

Jeff Battersby (29m 57s)

So what you're saying is I'm on the right purchase cycle, thank you

Chris Freitag (29m 59s)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Tom Anderson (30m 1s)

Yeah, well, especially you've got the 15. So not much of a jump from there.

Jeff Battersby (30m 2s)

soon

Jeff Battersby (30m 4s)

Yeah

Tom Anderson (30m 7s)

Other than the photographic styles, but

Jeff Battersby (30m 9s)

Yeah, I think the only thing that I would do differently

Jeff Battersby (30m 11s)

You know if I were to get a 60 is I could get the 16 pro rather than the max I got the 16 pro max because it had the better camera Sorry 15 pro max because it had the better camera in it, and now that's not even an issue It's not a... and a lot of people have said, and...

Jeff Battersby (30m 26s)

I don't know if either of you have any experience with it, but this, you know,

Jeff Battersby (30m 29s)

the, the iPhone 16 with just the dual cameras is by a lot of people's estimation, great, you know, that's a, you don't, you don't need to make the,

Jeff Battersby (30m 40s)

the jump up to the pro model, to make it be of any value.

Tom Anderson (30m 45s)

and you get nice colors.

Chris Freitag (30m 47s)

Mm-hmm. Yeah, because pro is boring. Yeah.

Tom Anderson (30m 47s)

Unlike on the pros, right?

Jeff Battersby (30m 47s)

Yeah.

Jeff Battersby (30m 48s)

Right, right.

Tom Anderson (30m 48s)

Pros are the conservative colors.

Tom Anderson (30m 51s)

Pro is boring, yeah.

Jeff Battersby (30m 51s)

Yeah.

Jeff Battersby (30m 51s)

Why?

Tom Anderson (30m 53s)

Yeah, and see, I came from the 14 Pro to the 16 Pro Max.

Tom Anderson (30m 59s)

So I didn't have the 5X before,

Tom Anderson (31m 3s)

obviously picked up photographic styles before,

Tom Anderson (31m 5s)

picked up the action button that I didn't have before.

Tom Anderson (31m 7s)

So it was pretty nice upgrade for me.

Tom Anderson (31m 10s)

So I think if you were coming from that and anything below that,

Tom Anderson (31m 15s)

it'd be a pretty nice step up.

Tom Anderson (31m 16s)

But like you said there,

Tom Anderson (31m 17s)

both of you, the 15 to the 16,

Tom Anderson (31m 20s)

you don't get a whole lot with it.

Tom Anderson (31m 22s)

I did notice though,

Tom Anderson (31m 23s)

because the 14 still had the stainless steel bands and everything on the build.

Tom Anderson (31m 29s)

And I had the 14 Pro, not the Pro Max,

Tom Anderson (31m 32s)

and the weight of the 14 Pro compared to the 16 Pro Max,

Tom Anderson (31m 38s)

being a bigger phone and everything was not noticeably heavier at all.

Tom Anderson (31m 46s)

Which I was glad to see,

Tom Anderson (31m 47s)

'cause I was a little concerned about that going back to the bigger phone would be the weight,

Tom Anderson (31m 50s)

but it's very similar.

Tom Anderson (31m 51s)

And of course, physically it's bigger.

Tom Anderson (31m 53s)

So you kind of have to adjust your one-handed stuff if you're walking and trying to reach buttons and things.

Tom Anderson (31m 59s)

But I haven't really had an issue with that.

Tom Anderson (32m 1s)

So I've been very happy with it.

Chris Freitag (32m 4s)

Yeah, I went from the 13 to the 15 Pro Max

Chris Freitag (32m 9s)

and I did it as a sort of like,

Chris Freitag (32m 12s)

well, the 13's awkward and heavy and whatever,

Chris Freitag (32m 15s)

I might as well get the biggest screen.

Chris Freitag (32m 16s)

It was almost like a defeated idea.

Chris Freitag (32m 18s)

And I was shocked, I was shocked at the 15 Pro Max.

Chris Freitag (32m 21s)

I was actually like, wow, this is somehow easier to hold than the 13 Pro was.

Chris Freitag (32m 26s)

Like I didn't understand why that was.

Chris Freitag (32m 29s)

And then this year when they made them the same,

Chris Freitag (32m 32s)

I was like, well, I do want to step back down

Chris Freitag (32m 34s)

because pocket size kind of stuff.

Chris Freitag (32m 37s)

But yeah, I think the Pro Max is not.

Tom Anderson (32m 41s)

Yeah, I've been really, really happy, and I won't say I won't ever go back to the pro because we don't know what they're putting out down the road, but for now it's good.

Tom Anderson (32m 50s)

In your video there, I noticed you mentioned in the description that it was just to talk about the film perspective, and you said you didn't do anything in the video related to video.

Tom Anderson (32m 59s)

Do you use the phone for much video work?

Tom Anderson (33m 1s)

Do you do B-roll stuff with that for your videos much?

Chris Freitag (33m 3s)

I do, I do.

Chris Freitag (33m 4s)

I actually got this, uh, this special cage that goes on it where I can put an ND filter on, um, uh, neutral density filter.

Chris Freitag (33m 12s)

And when you're doing video work, that ND filter is very important because you can open up the aperture to get separation behind you.

Chris Freitag (33m 20s)

Um, and that, that just helps.

Chris Freitag (33m 22s)

So, so I have this cage and then once you have the cage on there, so it's a form fitting cage, meaning, meaning it fits specifically the iPhone 16 pro, uh, once Once you have that cage on, you can put all of these.

Chris Freitag (33m 33s)

other little things on it that makes it easier to hold.

Chris Freitag (33m 36s)

So yeah, I do like to use it for b-roll quite a bit.

Chris Freitag (33m 39s)

I've actually, I'll use it for my main videos most people don't notice.

Chris Freitag (33m 44s)

Like the video stuff I do on YouTube is like self-serving creative energy stuff.

Tom Anderson (33m 44s)

Uh-huh. (laughs)

Chris Freitag (33m 51s)

You know, an iPhone video is just fine for YouTube.

Jeff Battersby (33m 55s)

Have either of you used Lux's keynote?

Chris Freitag (34m 2s)

Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah. Yes, I have. Yes, I have. It's actually kind of nice.

Jeff Battersby (34m 6s)

It's I picked it up at ten bucks

Chris Freitag (34m 8s)

Yeah. Right.

Jeff Battersby (34m 9s)

No sub like Halite has I mean that may come come to that. I'm happy to pay for Halite's subscription, but

Jeff Battersby (34m 16s)

Man, I'm impressed by that in terms of what it can do it has a bunch of different film styles as well

Jeff Battersby (34m 24s)

Including some really good black and white

Jeff Battersby (34m 26s)

Again, you catch a theme with me. I really do like black and white a lot and I am just being silly I was

Jeff Battersby (34m 34s)

Hang with a friend who is getting

Jeff Battersby (34m 36s)

Haircut the other day and I was sitting in the barbershop and and I put on one of the black and white

Jeff Battersby (34m 42s)

Took a keynote video with one of the black and white film styles that they had and man It looks so freaking good that that app is pretty amazing. I think it's up for an Apple Design Award this year I thought I thought I saw I

Jeff Battersby (34m 59s)

Saw that but what an amazing app for video. It really does does some great work

Chris Freitag (35m 6s)

Yeah, it records in log and it applies the LUT real time, so you don't have to worry about that in post. That's why it's so nice. It's not recording the H.265, it's recording full log,

Jeff Battersby (35m 6s)

And I'd like to play with it more

Jeff Battersby (35m 24s)

Yeah, really, really beautiful quality to like the the contrasts in the in the black and white I thought were great.

Jeff Battersby (35m 31s)

You know, really, really good quality. So yeah, it was $10. I mean, you know, you know, stub my toe and spend that much money. So it's, it's really, it really is great app. I really,

Tom Anderson (35m 33s)

I'd say that's about 10 bucks.

Tom Anderson (35m 36s)

Alright, yeah, I might have to check that out then.

Tom Anderson (35m 38s)

Give me something to do over the holiday break.

Jeff Battersby (35m 47s)

I really like it. So why don't you said so we can close this

Jeff Battersby (35m 54s)

a little bit. Chris, why don't you tell us a little bit about some of your favorite photo stuff going on what what you're working with? I note that you got a new

Chris’s Other Photo Gear

Chris Freitag (36m 4s)

Yeah, I got this little 50 millimeter.

Chris Freitag (36m 9s)

So I have the Fujifilm X-T5 and I got its little cousin, the Fujifilm X-T50.

Chris Freitag (36m 15s)

And that camera has been very fun because it's small, like a pocket camera,

Chris Freitag (36m 23s)

but it sort of demands little lenses.

Chris Freitag (36m 25s)

And so I got this little manual 50 millimeter lens on it and that was fun.

Chris Freitag (36m 31s)

But yeah, that's, I mean,

Chris Freitag (36m 33s)

what I'm mostly excited about.

Chris Freitag (36m 34s)

right now is, um, I, I guess I think I've seen it in other people's point of view is all the cameras are good.

Chris Freitag (36m 46s)

Like I just picked up a Lumix because I was having trouble with video and Fujifilm and,

Chris Freitag (36m 52s)

and that turned out to be a known problem.

Chris Freitag (36m 54s)

I was just trying to overcome it.

Chris Freitag (36m 56s)

When I picked up this Lumix camera, it was so much easier just right out of the gate.

Chris Freitag (37m 1s)

As soon as I turned it on, it was just easier to use.

Chris Freitag (37m 4s)

I took it out for some photography and lo and behold, it takes great photos as well.

Chris Freitag (37m 8s)

So I think that's probably the best part is it doesn't matter what camera you go get at this point. I really think you're going to get a good camera like, you know, Android, iPhone,

Chris Freitag (37m 21s)

all of these cameras. They're just, they're so fantastic at this point.

Chris Freitag (37m 26s)

It's a great time to try photography.

Jeff Battersby (37m 30s)

So what's your current kit, what do you carry around with you?

Chris Freitag (37m 34s)

I still carry around Fujifilm for photography, like photography is number one and I'll, you know,

Chris Freitag (37m 39s)

I'll take video stuff with me and I'll end up just shooting photos all day. I won't even do one video, you know, cause it's just, it's not my first thought. You know, if I'm looking at a beautiful sunset, I'm not like, Oh, I need to set up my tripod and put my video on it.

Tom Anderson (37m 53s)

Mm-hmm. (laughs)

Chris Freitag (37m 53s)

I just take the photo. So it's Fujifilm. It's Fujifilm, the X-T5 and the X-T50,

Chris Freitag (37m 59s)

depending on what I'm doing. X-T5 is when I'm in the mountains, when I'm doing

Chris Freitag (38m 4s)

that kind of work. X-T50 is like everyday photography, street photography.

Chris Freitag (38m 15s)

My favorite focal length is 35mm, so I have the 23mm on the Fujifilm because it's a crop sensor.

Chris Freitag (38m 23s)

It's the same field of view as a 35mm on a full frame.

Chris Freitag (38m 29s)

So yeah, 23mm 1.4R LMWR, if anyone's wondering.

Jeff Battersby (38m 35s)

We'll put that in the show notes.

Tom Anderson (38m 36s)

That was pretty good. Not bad.

Chris Freitag (38m 40s)

Yeah.

Jeff Battersby (38m 40s)

Yeah, that's pretty, pretty slick.

Jeff Battersby (38m 43s)

Well, Chris, as always, really grateful to have you on.

Jeff Battersby (38m 49s)

And again, why don't you tell everybody where we can find you, both on YouTube and whatever other platforms you're on, putting up videos, and your gorgeous photography, I'll reiterate,

Jeff Battersby (39m 3s)

that you're putting out every day.

Jeff Battersby (39m 5s)

It's on threads.

Jeff Battersby (39m 6s)

It's some gorgeous work.

Where to Find Chris

Chris Freitag (39m 12s)

Sure, I'm @chrisfreitag almost everywhere.

Chris Freitag (39m 16s)

If I could get Freitag, I did.

Chris Freitag (39m 19s)

So I'm mostly @chrisfreitag, @chrisfreitag at YouTube,

Chris Freitag (39m 22s)

so youtube.com/@chrisfreitag,

Chris Freitag (39m 25s)

threads @chrisfreitag, Instagram @chrisfreitag,

Chris Freitag (39m 29s)

and then on Glass, I'm @chrisfreitag.

Chris Freitag (39m 32s)

But yeah, that's where I am.

Tom Anderson (39m 34s)

Okay, and we'll have all those in the show notes and also up on, if you go to basicafshow.com,

Tom Anderson (39m 40s)

there's a guests section and Chris has a page up there.

Tom Anderson (39m 44s)

It's got his links in there too.

Jeff Battersby (39m 44s)

mm-hmm yeah so thanks really appreciate it and appreciate your insight in me for making me feel better about not getting a 16 pro yeah

Chris Freitag (39m 57s)

Yeah, if people waited, I think I would say just wait,

Chris Freitag (39m 59s)

just wait, 'cause I do believe,

Tom Anderson (40m)

Right, at this point, yeah.

Chris Freitag (40m 1s)

I think they're gonna change it.

Chris Freitag (40m 3s)

I think it's gonna be thin like the iPads.

Tom Anderson (40m 5s)

Yeah, that's a iPhone 17 Air or whatever that rumored mock-up thing is that's going around.

Chris Freitag (40m 10s)

Right.

Jeff Battersby (40m 11s)

Yeah, that'll bend real easy in somebody's back pocket.

Tom Anderson (40m 12s)

Yeah, it looks super thin and also we'll see what that's like.

Tom Anderson (40m 17s)

And then we'll have another Bendgate,

Tom Anderson (40m 18s)

just like the iPads get.

Tom Anderson (40m 19s)

Every time a new one comes out.

Tom Anderson (40m 22s)

And real quick, before we let Chris go,

Tom Anderson (40m 23s)

Chris, I know.

Tom Anderson (40m 26s)

From your threads post, just like I am, you're enjoying the resurging Denver Broncos.

Chris Freitag (40m 32s)

Oh yeah, yeah, it's like so much pain that I just thought I didn't like football anymore and then now they're doing well and I'm like oh right I love this sport, so yeah.

Tom Anderson (40m 34s)

So it's, it's been a long time.

Tom Anderson (40m 45s)

Right.

Tom Anderson (40m 46s)

Ah, I remember this.

Tom Anderson (40m 48s)

Yes.

Tom Anderson (40m 49s)

Welcome back.

Tom Anderson (40m 50s)

And that day, Monday night with Cleveland was so wild.

Tom Anderson (40m 53s)

I was like, yeah.

Chris Freitag (40m 53s)

That was wild, yeah.

Tom Anderson (40m 54s)

And that-- that--

Tom Anderson (40m 56s)

Well, we have a quarterback now, right?

Tom Anderson (40m 58s)

So we've got Bo Nix.

Tom Anderson (40m 59s)

They drafted him.

Tom Anderson (41m)

So possibly in some of these first years,

Tom Anderson (41m 2s)

so it's too soon to say, but has all the makings of, like,

Tom Anderson (41m 5s)

the next franchise quarterback.

Tom Anderson (41m 6s)

But that throw to Marvin Mims, that 93-yard touchdown pass,

Chris Freitag (41m 8s)

You know, what's really funny is you and I had a conversation on threads, I want to say last year, that we didn't believe Sean Payton was a good, he was going to turn it around.

Tom Anderson (41m 11s)

oof, man, that got everybody hyped.

Chris Freitag (41m 23s)

We thought he was not going to be able to turn it around because old school, blah, blah,

Tom Anderson (41m 28s)

Mmm, yeah, well...

Chris Freitag (41m 28s)

blah.

Chris Freitag (41m 29s)

And now I look at this year, and honestly, I think if Bo Nix went anywhere else, I don't think he would be succeeding.

Chris Freitag (41m 36s)

I really do give the credit.

Chris Freitag (41m 38s)

I give the credit to Sean Payton for slowly easing him into it.

Tom Anderson (41m 41s)

Yeah, he really did and then has started to open it up and he's gotten rookie of you know rookie of the week

Chris Freitag (41m 45s)

Exactly.

Chris Freitag (41m 46s)

Yeah.

Tom Anderson (41m 48s)

A few times and also in Jeff. I know you don't care about this We'll make it short and I know you got to go but Vance Joseph on defense

Tom Anderson (41m 55s)

Remember, he got fired as the Broncos coach and came back and then last year Miami put 70 on him And I was like, oh, he's out the door again, but he's turned it around. They didn't play that well against

Chris Freitag (41m 56s)

Yes.

Chris Freitag (41m 58s)

Yeah.

Chris Freitag (42m 3s)

Yep.

Tom Anderson (42m 7s)

Cleveland but overall this year

Chris Freitag (42m 9s)

Yeah. Yeah.

Jeff Battersby (42m 10s)

And this has been Sports Talk on W-A-A-S!

Chris Freitag (42m 12s)

That's right.

Tom Anderson (42m 14s)

But like we said, at this point, we're playing with house money.

Tom Anderson (42m 18s)

Did not expect them to be in playoff contention, so everything is a bonus from here, so it's good.

Jeff Battersby (42m 23s)

I'm sorry I missed that game, by the way, usually I can get in.

Tom Anderson (42m 26s)

But it was wild.

Tom Anderson (42m 27s)

It was fun, stressful, but it was fun.

Jeff Battersby (42m 28s)

I had a late night of work and by the time I got home, all I could do was shower and go to bed to get up for the next day's work, but I saw the banter and I'm happy for you both.

Tom Anderson (42m 37s)

Well, thank you, Jeff.

Jeff Battersby (42m 42s)

I really am.

Tom Anderson (42m 44s)

Thanks, Pete.

Jeff Battersby (42m 46s)

This is an interesting football season for those who care, which is Detroit Lions are doing well.

Jeff Battersby (42m 52s)

There's a lot of--

Chris Freitag (42m 53s)

You know what would be the killer is if Detroit and Buffalo end up in the Super Bowl.

Jeff Battersby (42m 53s)

interesting old-school football going on.

Tom Anderson (43m)

That would be great.

Chris Freitag (43m 1s)

I would be like, "Who do I root for?"

Tom Anderson (43m 3s)

I know.

Chris Freitag (43m 5s)

You know, I like both of these teams.

Chris Freitag (43m 7s)

I want them both to succeed, so yeah, that would be rough.

Tom Anderson (43m 10s)

Yeah, that'd be fun game too.

Tom Anderson (43m 12s)
