The dust has settled a bit since last week's CrowdStrike catastrophe. Stunning that such a small thing, a 40KB file, to be exact, could cause such a significant amount of damage. So bad that, as of this writing, Delta Airlines still haven't entirely gotten their flights back to normal.
In our last podcast episode both Tom and Adam spoke about the problems with 1) the software designed to protect us often also being the greatest pain point for most users and the people who support them and 2) how dangerous it is to have all your digital eggs being secured in the same basket. And it's true! Most malware and anti-virus software complicates more than it resolves and when a single 40KB file can take down 5% of all the Windows computers it's installed on.
